Since Monday afternoon however, we have at D block had dark murky water with stench flowing through toilet. Looks as if untreated sewage is being flushed into our toilets. I couldn't believe my own eyes and nose when I first noticed the phenomenon yesterday afternoon. How, and why would anyone want to flush sewage into our bedroom toilet. I worked our toilet two or three times over the next 30 minutes before reporting the matter to our maintenance office.
PropCare chief, and another person I called, said they would look into it right away. In a properly functioning set up you expect things to get sorted out soon; or at least get a status report on the situation. And when nothing of this sort happened till this morning (Tuesday), I took the photo, just in case someone thinks I am hellucinating. Sewage is the last thing you expect to have your toilet flushed with. Wonder whose bright idea it was, and why.
I wish PropCare chief or someone else in his office had called back to tell us what went wrong and, for how long would they expect us to put up with sewage in our flush.
This is pathetic and I also faced the same issue 4 weeks back when I was in Mantri to clean up my G block flat. I complianed to the Propcare person in the premise and the reply was indifferent stating they will look into it and showed me how they are busy with the register having so many issues already logged.
ReplyDeleteInstead of clearing the issues, Propcare is using it as an excuse to not do the job. We should seriously consider giving them notice and appoint some other agency which has demonstrated influence with Municipality, Panchayat etc., to get our work done. It may cost more but its worth it as against paying even now and not getting anything in return.
The value of the flats at Mantri will also go down if this is manner in which the complex is maintained.
Apartment owner in G block (wish we had his identity) refers to a suitable agency with influence in panchayat/muncipality to address sewage/other waste disposal issue. In my reckoning developing a sewage and waste management system calls for co-ordinated approach of neighbourhood real estate developers (Padur-Kelambakkam), apartment owners associations, panchayat, plus the block development agency.
DeleteUncle, I am appalled by seeing this. Why would we need a majority to take them legally, uncle? I am not able to understand this. Fine, to form an association, you may need the majority. But when we are cheated to this level by a developer from whom we had bought our flat, why do we need a majority? What's the practical difficulty one would have to face, if one decides to pursue a legal action against Mantri?
ReplyDeleteAny aggrieved apartment owner who is prepared to stick his neck out, and hires a lawyer to make a case against contractual non-compliance, can take Mantri's to court.
DeleteIt took me 11 years and a spirited lawyer to get a court ruling against Tamilnadu housing board, against whom, they said, no house-owner or residents association had won a case. I was determined to do whatever it took, and for however long it took, to get a court verdict.
Issue is not whether or not we have a case against developers, but whether we have the collective will, mindset and stamina to stay the legal course.
I believe we need take on the developers in the neighbourhood, not just Mantri's, for their failure to address civic infrastructure issues. Padur panchayat, town-planning agency and the highway depts. could all be made accountable for their indifference to the need for waste and sewage disposal system in our area. If we don't act, Padur-Kelambakkam would turn into another Pallikarani.
This is not an issue isolated to your project. We at mantri Astra Bangalore are facing a similar issue and repeated mails to propcare has yielded zero results

It did. But the wider issue relating to our STP sewage processing capacity, and disposal of excess of treated sewage has yet to be addressed. My senae is we have not been able to mobilise critical awareness among OMR residents that sewage and other waste disposal are infrastructure issues that need a co-ordinated approach involving all the neighbourhood OMR comminities and Padur panchayat body.

ReplyDeleteI have no info on others, but at Mantri's we have been buying water to supplement in-house wells. Recently, they started digging bore wells, and have struck water in two. Do check with your folks on bore well plans.
Meanwhile you might have read about plans to commission govt. desalination plant later this year. Which should take care of the needs of our neighbourhood.
